Wel... with SEconomy 2 coming out as well, which supports multiple currencies, I might be the only option.

This would mean having mobs drop soulshards, as well as EXP (maybe something else from other mobs too) but EXP would be for ranks, and ss and other currencies for things like shop, or VIP commands, ect.
