Keep SSC (Server Sided Characters)? - Panther - 05-16-2014

Note: SSC is currently broken, which is why the "fun" server is up.

I've had the "fun" server up for a little while now. with this, players have access to /item, /summon (which is a limited /sm command i made), /butch (which is butcher with a cooldown), and some other donator permissions.

When I put the serve back to normal, permissions will go back to normal, that means only donators have summon, and staff have /item. Players still get to use the /shop, which has most items anway, but it costs shards.

Also, bank accounts and ranks would NOT reset if I turned off SSC.

I want to know how you all feel about SSC as well, should we keep it, or let people use their single player chars?

IMO, I'd prefer we keep it. I can make starter sets so its not so hard, you can vote and get 1million shards a day and buy life/mana crystsals, so its not hard to get full health and stuff from scratch anyway, and without it there is not as much to work towards and people ruin it by brining in unfair items.

I think SSC and our ranking system is one thing that makes this server unique. Getting rid of it would really offset the server. Most people do like it overall with what iv'e seen. Ranking and the SS system would literally be a waste if we went without SSC. I think the ranking system and working hard to get those unobtainable items is a nice feature, and something we should always have. Its also true that we do have starting gear, and voting does make it easy to rank up faster. Those who complain about it are just lazy and don't want to work anymore than they have to. I also think that SSC allows us to have a better, friendlier community. With SSC we can keep hackers and other scum out of the server and away from those legitimate players who are active and wan't to have fun.

I love the SSC, it is one of the two reasons I stay on this server, the other one is all the nice people

I have been playing on this server for quite a few months now, and I have seen every perspective. A new player that wants a area to build, a progressing player creating huge baces and farms to attempt to make more soul shards, to a newer moderator trying to weed out the hackers so that legit players can play in peace. I feel that I understand all sides of the argument.
SSC has always made this server unique. The added differculty of beginning a new world that is already in hardmode, while fighting alongside or against your friends, has always appealed to me. I see why newer players find issue with SSC, as it is hard to start out in hardmode and the items you work to get in single player become useless, but removing SSC would break a lot more than it fixes.
Without SSC the server would attract even more hackers, and make it even harder to weed hacking players out of the server. Hackers can hack in endgame and over powered items in their single player then bring them to the server, and moderators would not be able to determine if they where telling the truth easially. Unfortunately, that one bad apple can ruin the bunch. One hacker left unattended can distribute those endgame items, destroy the econimy of the server, and destroy the meaning of the accomplishments achieved by legit players.
The fact that you have to actually work for your items allows this server to hold interest. Other servers become boring after a day because you have no goal, nothing to work toward. The fact that this server keeps the two overall goals of terraria, to receive rewards for the work you put into the game as well as the overall progression of the game, makes this server fun.
If you hack, you bacically finish the game with the press of a few buttons, but if you actually put hard work into getting your items should give you a feeling of accomplishment. The feeling that you get when you realize did not take the easy way (hacking) to get your items, would be gone along with SSC.
I personally vote that this server should keep SSC. I hope that if you stand in opposition to ssc, you realize the points I have written and begin to see the issue from another point of view.

P.s. I know I wrote a lot. I get carried away with writing about videogames. I once wrote ten pages on the mechanics of final fantasy 14: a realm reborn. =)

P.s.s. don't bother correcting my grammar and or spelling mistakes. I bet there is a ton of them.

SSC Is the best choice but I've suggested this a long time ago reset everyone's player files so everyone starts off fresh and not change map every month? yeah some people might be mad but it helps the server newer people will come and join more often and we will be able to catch hackers easier

RE: Keep SSC (Server Sided Characters)? - Panther - 05-22-2014

YEah.. I dont really want to reset everyones accounts again...

Also, Map resets... kind of need them eventually. The map gets really really messy.

What i do want to get back though... is bank chests, so people dont lose their things when the maps do reset.
