I thought that was a terraria bug that the devs don't do anything about...

If you're talking about the bug where completely shadowed areas become transparent, I believe that's a tShock glitch, not the map itself.

Its a terraria glitch, as I've had it happen to me before in single player, and yes, it is the map. What happened is that the actual ground level of that map was REALLY low. The ground should be just around the tops of the trees in the background (such as where the points start forming), but in this case it was quite literally just above the dirt layer. The reason you don't commonly see this, is that in a correct world generation, the spots that would normally have that glitch are low enough to have dirt walls behind him, and the only exception to this is the pyramids as they don't naturally have walls behind the sandstone, which as well as the world gen, are quite rare. EDIT: The reason for the glitch is because the blocks need to have light (by that i mean sunlight/background light; torches and such actually fix the glitch) around them, and space behind them, while being a certain depth, which is why you only see it during the day on the surface, and why you can occasionally see it in the underworld.

Screenshot for scale: http://prntscr.com/cfhfos Notice how much higher it is. The spot where the glitch actually happens is relatively small. The world has to be really low for it to happen. Notice how much higher the east side is than the rest of the map, and that it doesnt glitch. The east side of the map is at a correct level, whereas the middle is not. Do take note that my screenshot is not 100% accurate as to the "correct" level, because it could be quite a bit lower without glitching, and could be a bit higher up as well. Its just the spot i usually see worlds' surfaces generate in.

Finally, we could use an empty world
